Reimagine Education Co-Creation Workshop: How Might We Turn Hong Kong into a Learning Society?
Have you heard that many jobs will be replaced by AI within 10 years? Do you still believe that the traditional education-employment-retirement life path applies to the new generation? How to nurture lifelong learning in our society has become a challenge as well as an opportunity for all educators, business executives, talent development professionals, policymakers, and people like you who are keen on revamping education.

uReply – A Comprehensive Mobile Tool for Classroom Interactions
uReply is a campus-wide classroom communication tool for use with mobile devices designed to facilitate teacher-student interactions. It has the following characteristics and features:

  • Ease of use: Students are allowed to use their own mobile devices (e.g. smart phone, tablet and notebook) instead of the keyboard devices such as “clickers” provided by teachers.
  • Campus-wide: It supports multiple classes to use it instantaneously in the campus, no matter the class size.
  • Cloud-based: It allows teachers to collect students’ responses and generates reports instantly during class.
  • Cross-platforms: It works on most of the web browsers, as well as in various digital devices and operation systems.

This workshop will explain the basic operations of the tool as well as share a few ideas on how to use the technology to achieve active and engaged learning.

Information Session on eLearning Services and Grants
The use of technology is common in many teaching and learning innovations nowadays. Teachers need to know more about the support that are available in the campus when they plan their innovations and apply for the funding needed - e.g. Teaching Development and Language Enhancement Grant (TDLEG), or Micro-Module Courseware Development Grant Schemes (MMCDGS).

This Information Session will introduce the various eLearning services provided by the newly-restructured Center for eLearning Innovation and Technology (ELITE), including production of courseware packages or resources, hosting of the resources in various platforms, and the development of more sophisticated applications. Examples of previous work will be shown with the costs incurred to assist teachers to plan their projects.

Key to the success of e-learning studies- Strategies of finding innovative research topics
PROFESSOR GWO-JEN HWANG

Chair Professor of the Graduate Institute of Digital Learning and Education and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, National Taiwan University of Science

Title: Key to the success of e-learning studies- Strategies of finding innovative research topics

Abstract: The advancement of computing and communication technologies has significantly changed the conception of teaching and learning in the past decades. Such a paradigm shift has attracted the attention of researchers from both the fields of computer science and education technology, who have tried to conduct various experimental e-learning studies to improve students’ learning performances. However, it is found that finding a valuable and innovative research topic is a challenging task for most researchers. Many papers submitted to well recognized journals are rejected owing to the lack of innovations in the studies. In this talk, Prof. Hwang is going to present the strategies for finding innovative e-learning research topics as well as the criteria of publishing a quality paper. In addition, several authentic examples will be given to demonstrate how the value of an e-learning study can be promoted.
